Our Green Policy

Going for Green…

Getting greener is not easy, but we try to do our bit to help the environment at Cosy Cottages, and encourage our guests to do the same.  We are not perfect – but with your help we hope we can make a positive difference.

We want to do as much as we can to preserve the natural beauty we see around us as well as our natural resources.  We will keep an eye on how we are doing, and we hope you will let us know if you think of ways we could do more

Here are some of the things we are doing:

Environmentally-friendly cleaning products
:  wherever possible we use organic, environmentally friendly cleaning products, these have the added advantage of being kinder to humans and dogs too!  However, if a guest leaves a bottle of washing up liquid we use it rather than throw it away, but replace it with an Eco-kind variety.

Recycling
:  We ask you to follow Derbyshire local authority requirements to recycle food waste, paper, cardboard, glass, tins, and drink cans.

Using natural products:  We have a policy of green replacement, so over time linen and towels will all be of ethically sourced  cotton, but we do not feel it is right to throw away the linen we currently have. Most of the linen we have now is 100% cotton, or cotton percale with  a 200 threadcount

Efficient use of water and energy:  We have hippos in cisterns and replace appliances and light bulbs with energy efficient products when they wear out. We also encourage responsible use of central heating.

Support for the local community:  We ask you to support the range of fine local shops and facilities rather than bring a supermarket shop with you.

Ditch the car! Information is provided on public transport options and on a range of walks and trips from the door

Responsible gardening: We use natural fertilisers and careful planting to encourage wildlife and we compost garden waste.

Support local businesses  We use local suppliers and tradesmen where ever possible..

Please let us know if there is anything you feel we could do better or have any advice you can offer

Thank you for your support!
